Adesuwa Etomi Wellington became a household name with the widely popular ‘The Wedding Party’ but before then, Adesuwa had featured in a variety of roles and is now a force to be reckoned with in Nollywood.
The Early Years
Adesuwa Etomi Wellington, the youngest of three children was born in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria; where from a tender age, she began to nurse the ambition to venture into the Performing Arts.
At 7, she joined the drama club at her school. She would then proceed to the UK, where at 13, she enrolled to obtain a diploma in ‘Physical Theatre, Musical Theatre and Performing Arts’ from City College Coventry.
She would later proceed to graduate with First Class Honours in ‘Drama and Performance’ at the University of Wolverhampton.
Her Acting Career
Star that she is, Adesuwa landed a lead role in her first movie appearance, ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Door’ where she played ‘Debbie’, a troubled wife with an angelic voice.
Since then, she has starred in movies such as Falling, A Soldier’s Story, Out of Luck, Couple of Days, The Arbitration, Something Wicked, The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2, King of Boys, Muna, and the most recent blockbuster: Sugar Rush.
Her filmography has been on an upward trajectory since she first debuted and it would seem that the buzz just keeps following her trail.
She has featured in three of Nollywood’s top five grossing movies of all time viz: The Wedding Party 2, The Wedding Party and King of Boys.
Following in that trail, Sugar Rush which was released in December 2019, seems destined to the same fate as it enjoyed a lot of attention during the holidays on the back of positive reviews.
Adesuwa is married to the popular Actor, Musician and Politician, Olubankole Wellington.
They tied the knot traditionally in Nigeria on 19 November, 2017 and proceeded with a spectacular white wedding ceremony in South Africa on 25 November, 2017.
The duo often feature together in movies with examples such as The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2, Up North and the trending cinema rave, Sugar Rush.
It would seem, that film makers are keen to replicate the success of The Wedding Party by starring the power couple and that appears to be working well thus far.
As of March 2019, notion.ng reported Adesuwa’s net worth to be $500,000.
